Education Sec Sonny Angara confident in teacher salary increase

Education Secretary Sonny Angara expressed confidence that public school teachers will receive a salary increase under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration, though he did not specify an exact amount or timeline.

During his oath-taking ceremony at Malacañang Palace on Friday, July 19, Angara highlighted the president's recognition of educators as central to the education system and their need for better salaries.

While dismissing proposals for a P50,000 entry-level salary due to budget constraints, Angara emphasized that an increase is inevitable but did not provide specifics.

The new DepEd chief also mentioned plans to address teacher career progression issues and improve training programs to enhance teaching quality.

Angara noted the President's directive to financially support teachers who have families to feed, aiming to improve students' test scores and employability upon graduation.
