Sen. Bato Dela Rosa considers not surrendering to ICC warrant

Sen. Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa stated on Monday that he will turn himself in to law enforcement when his protection from the Senate ends but is now considering not surrendering following the issuance of a warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

As Duterte's former police chief and architect of the war on drugs, Dela Rosa remains one of the subjects under ICC investigation.

Dela Rosa questioned why he should surrender if justice is not seen in the country, indicating his reluctance to comply with the arrest order.

The senator expressed readiness to face any consequences but now appears uncertain about his next steps amid a warrant issued by the ICC.

Despite arguing that the Philippines no longer falls under ICC jurisdiction since its withdrawal in 2019, Senate President Escudero has offered Dela Rosa sanctuary to give him time to figure out his legal remedies.
