Leila De Lima calls for Duterte's legal accountability

Former Senator Leila De Lima, a vocal critic of former President Rodrigo Duterte's administration, emphasized that his arrest for crimes against humanity was about justice for victims of extrajudicial killings.

De Lima, who faced false charges and imprisonment from 2017 to 2024 while opposing Duterte's drug war, highlighted the significance of legal accountability for those affected by the campaign.

On Tuesday, Duterte was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) based on a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, transmitted through Interpol.

De Lima stressed that Duterte must now face legal consequences rather than just public opinion, underscoring the need for equal application of the law to all individuals in power.

She acknowledged the efforts of those who have advocated for justice over the years and reaffirmed her commitment to pursuing accountability.
