Iloilo ex-mayor Mabilog comments on Duterte ICC arrest

Former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog commented on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court, viewing it as a pivotal moment for justice and national healing.

Mabilog stated that this is not only a moment for justice to be served but also a moment for the nation to confront the truth and choose unity over division.

During Duterte's presidency, Mabilog was accused of being a narco-politician and protector of a major drug syndicate, leading him and his family to seek asylum in the United States in 2017 due to threats on their lives.

Mabilog returned to the Philippines last September to clear his name through congressional hearings on Duterte's war on drugs and extrajudicial killings and was later granted executive clemency by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

He emphasized that his faith sustained him during years of trials, fear, and uncertainty, and thanked those involved for opening new doors of hope and justice.
