Lacson urges gov't support for arrested Duterte; Marcos defends

Former Senator Panfilo Lacson urged the Philippine government to provide support to former President Rodrigo Duterte as he faces trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Lacson emphasized that Duterte, a Filipino citizen and former president, should receive governmental backing.

On Tuesday, March 11, Interpol arrested Duterte in connection with his crimes against humanity charges before the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. defended the arrest, stating it was proper and correct as per Interpol's request and international commitments.

Marcos clarified that the arrest does not violate Philippine sovereignty despite his previous statement in April 2024 that the government would not serve any ICC warrant against Duterte.

Administration senatorial candidate Imee Marcos expressed pity for Duterte over his arrest, highlighting the political sensitivity surrounding the issue.
