OCTA: Davao City, Western Visayas new epicenters

OCTA Research Group considers Davao City and Western Visayas as new epicenters of COVID-19 cases amid a surge in infections.

As of Wednesday, Davao City has 2,830 active cases, more than half of the region’s total 5,306. Western Visayas has 9,517 active cases, led by Iloilo City with 2,269.

OCTA experts predict that the increase in cases outside NCR will likely last for at least a month, noting it took around two months to contain previous case spikes in Metro Manila and Cebu City.

Davao City has surpassed Quezon City in having the highest average number of daily COVID-19 cases. OCTA flagged cities like Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Koronadal, Cotabato, and Davao as areas of concern due to their high infection rates.
