DA triples subsidized rice to 30 kg/month

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has tripled the monthly allocation of subsidized rice to 30 kilograms per beneficiary under its P29 per kilogram program.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. announced this new policy during a recent event, emphasizing that it will be implemented nationwide immediately.

Beneficiaries include vulnerable sectors such as senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, and indigents who can purchase rice at Kadiwa stores.

The P29/kg rice program uses buffer stocks from the National Food Authority (NFA) to ensure availability for those in need.

Rice accounts for roughly PHP9 of every PHP100 spent by the average Filipino consumer, increasing to over PHP18 per PHP100 for households with the lowest incomes.
