OCTA: COVID-19 fatality rate in Metro Manila rises to 5.36%

Experts studying the coronavirus pandemic reported that the case fatality rate (CFR) for COVID-19 in Metro Manila increased to 5.36% between March 28 and April 13, compared to 1.82% from March 1 to 27.

The Octa Research group noted this rise could be due to overwhelmed hospitals and the presence of more lethal variants of the virus.

While the recent CFR is based on a smaller sample size, experts advise that an increase in fatality rate should not be ignored.

Compared to previous data, there was also an observed increase in fatality rates among individuals aged 65 years old and above.
