Soccsksargen Region Experiencing Rising Number of Local Transmission Cases Amidst Concerns for Health System

The Soccsksargen region is experiencing an increase in confirmed coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases with local transmission becoming more prevalent.

As of the latest reports, South Cotabato has recorded 150 confirmed cases and 81 recoveries. Sarangani has reported 84 cases and 67 recoveries while General Santos City has 94 infections and 49 recoveries.

Health workers are concerned about the impact on the health system as four health personnel have contracted the virus in South Cotabato, including nurses and pharmacists deployed under the DOH’s Human Resources for Health program.

Several areas in Koronadal City and other municipalities have been placed under lockdown due to confirmed cases among fish vendors. The fish port complex is now considered a 'hotspot'.

The region has breached the 500-mark with a total of 513 confirmed cases, including a two-year-old female from Cotabato City.

Active cases are at 157 and there have been seven deaths to date. The recovery rate is currently at 68 percent.
