Over 54K OFWs return home amid pandemic

Over 54,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have returned since February due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The DFA expects an additional 27,400 OFWs to return in the next three weeks under the government's repatriation program.

As of June 22, 8,324 Filipinos overseas tested positive for COVID-19; 2,759 are being treated, 5,057 have recovered, and 508 have died.

The DFA aims to bring back 167,600 stranded Filipinos in the next two to three months, primarily from the Middle East.
