PNP reserves detention areas for ECQ violators

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is reserving detention areas and intensifying enforcement operations against violators of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As of April 22, a total of 136,517 ECQ violators have been recorded by the PNP since March 17.

PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa stated that violators will face arrest and inquest procedures without prior warnings, leading to longer detention periods due to court backlogs.

Most violations occurred in Metro Manila, with the Southern Police District recording the highest number of cases.
