Comelec urges politicians to respect INC peace rally

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged political aspirants to refrain from campaigning during the Iglesia ni Cristo's (INC) peace rally on Monday, January 13.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized respect for religious events and called on politicians not to exploit them for political gain.

Garcia noted that Comelec would not monitor the nationwide event due to its religious nature, stressing the importance of respecting such activities.

The INC's National Rally for Peace is expected to draw up to one million attendees in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte against impeachment efforts.

Senator Francis Tolentino stated his intention to attend the rally to support the call for unity and peace, while Senator Imee Marcos emphasized that the event aligns with constitutional guarantees of free speech.

Classes and government offices in Pasay and Manila will be suspended to accommodate the rally, with similar measures taken in Quezon City and Davao City.
