Comelec to proclaim winning party-list groups at Manila Hotel

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will proclaim winning party-list groups from the midterm polls on Monday, May 19.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia announced that the proclamation ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. today at the Manila Hotel and will include a resolution detailing the number of allocated seats for each group.

The National Board of Canvassers will base its proclamations on canvassed results from 175 certificates of canvass nationwide and overseas, with some legal counsels suggesting there might be one more seat than initially thought.

An alliance of artists and cultural workers has called for the disqualification of Duterte Youth nominees, arguing they do not represent marginalized sectors or the youth.

Duterte Youth received around 2.3 million votes in the midterm elections, securing three seats in Congress but failing to craft any substantial bills during their time in office.

The alliance claims Duterte Youth's sole purpose is to protect former President Rodrigo Duterte's interests and legacy, which they say includes defamation and surveillance of human rights advocates.
