Comelec considers adjusting 2022 election rules due to pandemic

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering modifying campaign rules and processes for the 2022 national and local elections due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Comelec is exploring options such as virtual debates among presidential candidates, safety protocols, and changes in absentee voting.

Commissioner Marlon Casquejo stated that they anticipate the pandemic will still be prevalent during election preparations and on election day.

Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio, another Comelec commissioner, said they are studying the possibility of modifying rules to accommodate a non-face-to-face campaign setup based on cases of COVID-19 in the country and concepts from other countries.
