Comelec eyes 2-3 hour extension for 2022 polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday that voting hours for the 2022 national elections will likely be extended by two to three hours due to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Comelec Commissioner Antonio Kho Jr. stated during a virtual briefing that reducing polling precinct sizes necessitates longer voting periods, with extensions possibly reaching up to 10 or even 12 hours.

Kho also mentioned plans to revert the number of voters per clustered precinct from 1,000 back to 800 or lower, depending on the availability of vote counting machines.
