China fires water cannon at Philippine boats in South China Sea

China's coast guard used water cannons against Philippine boats attempting to resupply Filipino troops at Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea.

The Chinese Coast Guard claims it acted according to law, while the Philippines maintains that international law was violated.

Chinese authorities have also demanded that the Philippines remove its grounded ship from the reef, which Manila uses to assert its claim over the disputed waters.

Philippine marines stationed on the rusting BRP Sierra Madre depend on regular resupply missions for survival.
