Tamayo earns MVP honors in win over Cagulangan

Former University of the Philippines teammates Carl Tamayo and JD Cagulangan faced off in a Korean Basketball League (KBL) match on Monday, with Tamayo earning Round 3 MVP honors for his outstanding performance.

Tamayo led Changwon LG Sakers to victory over Suwon KT Sonicboom with eight points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal, improving their record to 16-13, while he has been averaging 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in his last six games.

Cagulangan scored nine points along with three assists but could not secure a win for his team, leaving them at fifth place with an 15-13 record.

Prior to the game against Cagulangan, Tamayo had been on a scoring streak, averaging over 10 points per game in his last 11 matches before this single-digit performance.

Former De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde player Justin Gutang also shone with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists as Samsung Seoul Thunders defeated Busan KCC Egis by a score of 81-69 to improve their standing to eighth place with an 11-17 record.
