Bishops criticize ban on religious gatherings amid stricter COVID-19 rules

Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo criticized the ban on religious gatherings amid tightened COVID-19 restrictions, calling it a violation of religious freedom.

Pabillo noted that the government did not consult the church before implementing the ban, which is set to begin on Wednesday.

CBCP spokesperson Fr. Jerome Secillano questioned the directive's fairness, noting that spas and gyms are allowed to operate while churches are closed.

Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David slammed the decision as well, asking why religious gatherings were banned during Lent but other establishments could remain open with capacity limits.
