Ginebra advances to Commissioner's Cup semis, beats Meralco

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel advanced to the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup semifinals by defeating Meralco Bolts in their do-or-die quarterfinals Game 3 match on Sunday, securing a best-of-seven series against NorthPort Batang Pier starting February 26.

Ginebra pulled away late with an eight-point run to secure the win, led by Justin Brownlee's playoff performance which included a near triple-double of 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Despite trailing by one point at halftime, Ginebra rallied back in the second half thanks to key plays from Stephen Holt who scored 17 points and RJ Abarrientos who added 16 points down the stretch.

Chris Newsome led Meralco's effort with 22 points but fouled out late; Troy Rosario contributed 12 points for Ginebra while Scottie Thompson had seven points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone praised Brownlee’s performance as providing the 'spark' needed to secure their victory over Meralco.
