Philippine business groups urge Congress to pass pandemic law within constitutional bounds

Philippine business groups on Monday called for the immediate passage of a law addressing the coronavirus pandemic but urged that it should adhere to constitutional principles.

The groups specifically highlighted concerns over provisions allowing President Duterte to reallocate government funds and take over private enterprises, suggesting these should follow Supreme Court guidelines to avoid legal challenges.

Business chambers also expressed support for the Bayanihan Act in the House and the We Heal as One Act in the Senate, committing their resources and manpower to assist health workers and medical establishments.
