PA chief warns troops to stay alert against NPA attacks during COVID-19 missions

Philippine Army (PA) commander Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay reminded troops to remain vigilant and alert against communist rebel attacks during their humanitarian missions related to the coronavirus outbreak.

On Wednesday, 11 enlisted personnel from the 1st Infantry Division were attacked by NPA rebels while conducting an information awareness campaign in Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, resulting in a firefight that left one rebel dead and recovered weapons and medical supplies.

The previous day, troops of the 85th Infantry Battalion repelled communist rebels during a Covid-19 information dissemination drive in Mulanay, Quezon, highlighting the dual threat of the virus and terrorist activities.
