DOH: Vaccine effectiveness will take time to confirm

On Friday, the DOH responded to Roque's comment about Sinovac vaccines being effective for Filipinos based on Indonesian trials.

Vergeire stated that it would take time before the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines can be confirmed.

Dr. Lulu Bravo, a vaccine expert, said during a Senate hearing that even a 50% efficacy rate offers 'partial protection' better than no protection in severe pandemics.

Bravo emphasized that the incidence rate of COVID-19 is also crucial alongside vaccine safety and efficacy.

Brazilian researchers reported Sinovac's vaccine has an efficacy rate of 50.4%, while Indonesia approved it with a reported 65% efficacy.
