BJMP: 745 prisoners, 125 personnel test positive for COVID-19

As of Thursday, June 11, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) reported that 745 prisoners and 125 personnel have tested positive for COVID-19.

Among the infected prisoners, 388 have recovered while six have died; among the infected personnel, 65 have recovered with no fatalities.

The BJMP has established quarantine facilities to isolate those who have contracted the virus and is conducting immediate contact tracing.

Several groups are calling for the temporary release of vulnerable prisoners due to overcrowding and poor sanitation in detention facilities.
