PH logs 1,721 new COVID cases, total now over 461k

The Philippines reported 1,721 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, December 21, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to over 461k.

Recoveries increased by 82 to reach 429,207, while the death toll rose to 8,957 with 10 new fatalities.

Active cases now stand at 23,341, with about 82.2 percent being mild and 5.9 percent in critical condition.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire assured that the new COVID-19 strain from the UK has not reached the Philippines and no additional travel restrictions are needed as only diplomats, businessmen, and Filipino citizens are currently allowed to enter the country.
