Tondo placed under two-day hard lockdown to curb COVID-19

Manila's Tondo District 1 was placed under a two-day hard lockdown starting Sunday, May 3, to curb the spread of COVID-19 and allow for mass testing.

Police arrested 272 residents in Tondo for violating the total lockdown; most violators were men (241), with minors (25) and women (16) also among those apprehended.

The National Capital Region Police Office deployed 250 elite Special Action Force troops to assist in enforcing the hard lockdown, which ended Tuesday, May 5 at 5 a.m.

A similar 24-hour hard lockdown was implemented in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City on Monday, May 4, with only frontline workers and health personnel allowed outside.
