Kuwait: 23K OFWs displaced due to pandemic

Around 23,000 Filipino workers in Kuwait have been displaced due to job losses or no-work, no-pay arrangements caused by the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

As of Thursday, July 16, 2020, thirty-one Filipinos, including four healthcare workers, have died from COVID-19 in Kuwait, while 260 others have recovered out of around 300 confirmed cases.

The Philippine embassy has provided financial assistance to displaced workers through the DOLE-AKAP program, with approximately 5,000 receiving a one-time USD200 cash aid.

Additionally, the embassy has distributed 31,000 food packs to Filipinos since the start of the pandemic, sourced from donations by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and individual donors.
