Two female inmates die from COVID-19 in CIW

A 72-year-old female inmate at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) died from COVID-19 on April 27, bringing the total number of CIW inmates with confirmed cases to 49.

The other recent death was a 61-year-old inmate who passed away due to kidney failure and sepsis on April 21; her test results for COVID-19 came back positive on Monday.

Currently, 47 CIW inmates are being treated at the Medium Security Compound of New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

The Muntinlupa City government had previously protested against transferring infected CIW inmates to NBP due to health concerns.
