2.3 million Filipinos travel through ports during Holy Week, marking 37% increase

More than 2.3 million Filipinos traveled through ports during the Holy Week period, marking a 37.14% increase from the same period in 2024.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) attributed this surge to the overlap of Holy Week with school summer vacations and effective promotions for local tourist destinations.

Most passengers used ports in Batangas, Panay/Guimaras, Mindoro, Negros Oriental/Siquijor, and Bohol.

To ensure safety during peak travel periods, the Philippine Coast Guard deployed 17,000 personnel.

The PPA plans to roll out an Electronic Terminal Management System (ETMS) this year to streamline passenger ticketing processes and reduce queues.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that with e-ticketing in place, passengers will no longer face long lines.
