Eastern Visayas Sees Surge in COVID-19 Cases as Returnees Test Positive

As of June 10, the number of COVID-19 cases in the Eastern Visayas region has more than doubled to 76 from 28 two weeks ago.

Most new cases involve returning locally-stranded residents and repatriated overseas Filipino workers.

On Tuesday night, the region reported its highest single-day increase with 19 new confirmed cases, all of whom were returning residents.

The Department of Health has emphasized that patients are being confined in local community isolation facilities and only transferred to higher health care facilities if necessary.

In contrast, Western Visayas has seen a recovery rate of 72%, with 94 out of 130 patients recovering.
