Soccsksargen residents recover from new Covid-19 variants

At least 12 residents from Region 12 (Soccsksargen) have tested positive for new Covid-19 variants since January, with most cases detected and isolated in Metro Manila.

Three variants of concern—B.1.1.7 (UK), B.1.351 (South Africa), and P.1 (Brazil)—have infected the patients based on genome sequencing results from UP-PGC.

Most patients are returning overseas Filipino workers with travel history to countries with high cases of new variants.

Health authorities confirmed two OFWs in South Cotabato tested positive for B.1.351 (South African) and P.1 (Brazilian) variants, were properly isolated, and have now recovered.
