U.P. coronavirus test kit gov’t validation will take 2-3 weeks
The Department of Health (DOH) announced that the COVID-19 test kit developed by University of the Philippines (UP) scientists will be ready for commercial use in two to three weeks following a validation process.
The validation includes field trials in selected areas, as explained by DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
After validation, the UP test kit must obtain a Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) from the FDA of the Philippines before it can be widely distributed.

A significant advantage of the UP test kit is its lower cost compared to existing test kits, with an estimated price of P2,700 to P3,500 including extraction procedures, versus the P5,000 to P8,000 charged at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
