DOH tests 950-1000 PUIs daily as supplies remain sufficient

The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) is conducting 950 to 1,000 coronavirus tests daily for persons under investigation (PUIs).

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) performs around 600 tests per day, while three sub-national laboratories can each handle 100 tests and one can handle 50 tests daily.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that current test kit supplies are sufficient, but only those with severe symptoms or in vulnerable populations are prioritized for testing.

China donated 100,000 PCR test kits to the Philippines, which will be distributed by the RITM to sub-national laboratories.

The DOH emphasizes that not all PUIs are tested, focusing on those most at risk to manage resources effectively.
