UN forensics expert to visit PH to train doctors

UN forensics expert Dr. Morris Tidball-Binz will visit the Philippines starting Monday, Feb. 6, for a three-day visit.

Justice Secretary Jesus Remulla clarified that Dr. Tidball-Binz's visit will be in his capacity as a forensic expert to help capacitate current doctors, not as a UN Special Rapporteur.

This initiative aims to enhance the practice of forensic pathologists to achieve international standard practices and assist in identifying the intricacies of wrongful death tragedies.

Remulla stated that the initiative is an enormous step towards having more capable doctors to assist law enforcement agencies.

Dr. Tidball-Binz previously assisted in identifying victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 and has provided closure for families of victims of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.

During his visit, he will meet with various government officials from the DOJ, DFA, PDEA, PNP, NBI, NPS, and representatives from civil society organizations.
