18,000 evacuated in Cagayan due to Typhoon Marce

Almost 18,000 residents from coastal areas in Cagayan province have been evacuated to temporary shelters due to Typhoon Marce.

A total of 17,958 individuals from 6,439 families across 204 barangays in 23 municipalities were displaced by the typhoon's strong winds and heavy rain.

The PDRRMO chief reported that wind speeds reached over 180 kilometers per hour with heavy to intense rainfall.

No casualties have been reported so far, but the province is facing secondary hazards including flooding, rain-induced landslides, and storm surges.

The Cagayan River has started to swell, reaching 5 meters at the Buntun water gauge.

Emergency rescue operations were conducted for residents who refused preemptive evacuation, such as in Barangay Tapel, Gonzaga town.
