TS Carina maintains strength, may bring rains to Northern Luzon

Tropical Storm Carina has maintained its strength and slightly accelerated northwestward, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gusts of up to 80 kph.

As of Saturday night, Carina was located 545 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

PAGASA has not yet raised any tropical cyclone wind signals but is considering hoisting Signal No. 1 over Extreme Northern Luzon and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan.

Carina, along with the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains over parts of Luzon over the next three days.

Specific rainfall forecasts include 500 to 100 mm for the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan and the eastern portion of the Babuyan Islands from Sunday evening to Monday evening, and 50 to 100 mm for Batanes and Babuyan Islands from Monday evening to Tuesday evening.

Gusty conditions are also anticipated in several parts of the country over the next few days due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.
