Tropical Depression Ramil enters PAR, may intensify into severe tropical storm

Tropical Depression Ramil, the country's 18th tropical cyclone for 2025, has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of Friday afternoon, Ramil was located 640 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon, moving west southwest with sustained winds of 55 km/h and gusts of up to 70 km/h.

The weather bureau expects Ramil to intensify into a tropical storm in a matter of hours, with further strengthening into a severe tropical storm prior to landfall not ruled out.

Ramil is projected to make its first landfall in Catanduanes on Saturday afternoon, then pass close to or over mainland Bicol on Saturday evening.

It could make landfall again in Aurora or Quezon by Sunday morning, then cross Northern or Central Luzon before potentially emerging over the West Philippine Sea by Sunday afternoon or evening.

PAGASA warned that a southward shift in its track could alter the landfall area.
