Super typhoon Uwan nears Aurora landfall with 185 kph winds

Super typhoon Uwan is nearing landfall in Aurora Province, with PAGASA deploying storm chasers to the area to monitor conditions.

As of 8 p.m. Sunday, Uwan had maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h and gusts up to 230 km/h, moving northwestward at 30 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 is raised over the northern and central portions of Aurora, while the rest of the province is under Signal No. 4.

PAGASA forecasts the center of Uwan's eye to make landfall at or near its peak intensity over Aurora on Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

The deployed storm chasers will also conduct damage assessments after the typhoon passes to help improve future forecasts and disaster preparedness.
