Super typhoon Uwan maintains strength with 185 kph winds, landfall expected Sunday night

Super typhoon Uwan maintained its strength with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gusts up to 230 kph.

Six areas are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5: Quirino (southern portion), Nueva Vizcaya (southeastern portion), central Aurora, Polillo Islands, northern Camarines Norte, and northern Catanduanes.

As of 5 p.m., Uwan's eye was located 110 kilometers north of Daet, Camarines Norte, moving west-northwestward at 30 kph.

The super typhoon is expected to make landfall in the central portion of Aurora on Sunday night or Monday early morning.

A direct hit over Calaguas and Polillo Islands is likely due to its proximity and the size of its eyewall.

It is forecast to traverse over Northern Luzon before emerging over the Lingayen Gulf or the coastal waters of Pangasinan or La Union by Monday morning.
