Super Typhoon Uwan batters Aurora, causing landslides and evacuations

Super Typhoon Uwan made landfall in Dinalungan, Aurora on Sunday night, causing power and signal outages across the province.

Four northern Aurora towns—Dipaculao, Dinalungan, Casiguran, and Dilasag—are currently isolated due to landslides, with authorities expecting to reach them within the day.

A section of the Baler-Casiguran Highway in Dipaculao is impassable after being washed out by a storm surge.

The Aurora Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has received limited information due to communication difficulties, but they are actively monitoring the situation.

Over 5,000 families, or more than 17,000 individuals, were evacuated from eight towns in Aurora as a precautionary measure.

Storm surges up to three meters high also affected coastal areas in Baler, Dingalan, Dipaculao, and Dinalungan.

The typhoon has weakened into a typhoon as of Monday morning.
