Typhoon Uwan intensifies, 5 areas under TCWS No. 3, Metro Manila under TCWS No. 1

Typhoon Uwan has intensified with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gusts of up to 185 kph, moving west-northwest at 30 kph.

Five areas are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, including Catanduanes, eastern Camarines Sur, eastern Albay, northeastern Sorsogon, and northeastern Northern Samar.

Metro Manila and 52 other areas remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

Uwan is expected to pass close to Catanduanes on Sunday morning and may make landfall over southern Isabela or northern Aurora on Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

Life-threatening storm surges exceeding 3 meters may occur along the shores of Catanduanes, the Camarines provinces, and eastern Quezon within 48 hours.

The typhoon may reach super typhoon strength by Sunday and will bring significant rainfall across Luzon and Eastern Visayas, with torrential rains forecast over Bicol, Northern, and Central Luzon.
