PBBM suspends EDSA rehab for better traffic management

Senators and Metro Manila mayors lauded President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s decision to suspend the rehabilitation of EDSA.

The postponement aims to allow agencies to shorten the rehabilitation period and emphasizes the need for stronger traffic management planning and public consultation.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora expressed their full support, stating that the decision prioritizes the welfare and comfort of the public.

Senator Grace Poe called for a comprehensive traffic management plan, phased repairs, and a 24/7 construction schedule, recommending broader stakeholder consultations.

Senator Joel Villanueva thanked the President for listening to public concerns, highlighting that infrastructure improvements should not compromise public welfare.

Villanueva also noted that the economy already loses PHP3.5 billion daily due to traffic in Metro Manila, citing JICA.

President Marcos cited the need to explore faster and less disruptive construction methods for the P8.7-billion project, which was originally scheduled to last two years.
