Marcos orders review of P8.7B EDSA rehab plan

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has ordered the suspension of the P8.7-billion EDSA rehabilitation plan to explore faster, technologically advanced solutions.

The President aims to reduce the rehabilitation timeline from the original two years to six months or less, emphasizing the need for a 'better way' that minimizes public inconvenience.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon clarified that the project is not canceled but rather undergoing a reassessment to find more efficient methods.

Dizon stated that the original plan involving conventional lane-by-lane reconstruction, which would have taken too long, is not being pursued.

While the rebuild is on pause, the DOTr will continue to enhance the capacity of the MRT-3 and EDSA Bus Carousel.

The total cost estimate for the EDSA rebuild, potentially extending to 2027, could reach P15 billion according to DPWH estimates.
