Sen. Hontiveros open to 2028 presidential run

Senator Risa Hontiveros has expressed her openness to running for president in the 2028 elections, emphasizing the need for a strong and united opposition.

Hontiveros stated she is open to all possibilities for the benefit of the opposition and the masses.

Her party-list group, Akbayan, achieved significant success in the 2025 midterm elections, topping the party-list race, and her allies also secured senatorial seats.

Concrete decisions about her potential candidacy will be made later, as her immediate priority is uniting opposition allies and establishing a process for selecting the strongest slate for the 2028 elections.

She rejected the idea of joining a "solid bloc" being formed by allies of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
