Security Bank Foundation donated P15 million to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for the establishment of a bio-molecular laboratory in Cebu City to increase COVID-19 testing capacity in Central Visayas.
The PRC is also set to open a biomolecular laboratory at its logistics and training center in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, which will serve Zambales and nearby provinces.
This Subic facility is completed and awaits proficiency testing by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine for accreditation.
The laboratory is equipped with automated RNA extraction machines and has the capacity to process up to 8,000 tests per day, a significant increase from the previously stated 2,000 tests.
Philippine Red Cross Chairman and CEO Senator Richard J. Gordon stated that the PRC aims to unmask the unseen enemy and has set up several laboratories across the country.
The PRC has the distinction of being the only Red Cross national society with a biomolecular laboratory system.
