San Juan City begins COVID-19 vaccination program

San Juan City commenced its COVID-19 vaccination program on Thursday, March 11, 2021, with 141 SJMC personnel vaccinated with Sinovac and 143 medical workers vaccinated with AstraZeneca.

A total of 526 healthcare workers from SJMC, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, and St. Martin de Porres Charity Hospital received Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines on Thursday.

Ret. Gen. Dr. Ramon Marin, chief of clinic at SJMC, was the first to receive the AstraZeneca jab.

Mayor Francis Zamora expressed gratitude to the medical frontliners leading the vaccination drive, while Vice Mayor Warren Villa noted the local government's elation with the high turnout of willing frontliners.

As of March 10, San Juan City had 32,915 registrants for the vaccination program, representing 38.54% of the target population of 85,400.

To address rising COVID-19 cases, the city has re-imposed a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, prohibited mass gatherings, deployed more police, and is conducting extensive mass testing.

Non-contact sports and exercise are temporarily prohibited at Pinaglabanan Shrine, and residents are urged to register for vaccination.
