Rep. Cendaña urges DOTr to extend train, bus hours during Edsa rehab

Akbayan party-list Rep. Percival Cendaña urged the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to extend operating hours for trains (MRT and LRT) and the Edsa Bus Carousel during the upcoming Edsa rehabilitation.

Cendaña warned that commuters might be stranded due to increased traffic volume caused by the rehabilitation of the major thoroughfare.

He emphasized that commuters, unlike private vehicle owners, have no alternative and need assurance of sufficient public transportation.

EDSA serves as the Philippines' main transportation artery, with around 407,000 vehicles passing through daily.

Manila was the 14th most congested city in the world, with an average travel time of 32 minutes, according to the TomTom Traffic Index.

The rehabilitation project, with southbound lanes to be improved first, is expected to begin in March.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has stated that the Department of Public Works and Highways is finalizing the project's timetable and traffic management plan.
