Rep. Adiong seeks probe into fake PH birth certs, passports for foreigners

Lanao del Sur Rep. Ziaur-Rahman Adiong has filed House Resolution 1802, calling for a congressional inquiry into the proliferation of fake Philippine birth certificates and passports issued to foreigners.

This proposed investigation follows Senate revelations that 308 birth certificates used for passport applications were maliciously obtained, and an NBI report of nearly 200 fictitious birth certificates issued by the Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur civil registry, mostly to Chinese citizens.

The fake documents, including birth certificates and passports, were allegedly used by foreigners to purchase land, violating the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

The inquiry will investigate the timeline of events and the involvement of Local Civil Registrars.

The NBI has since uncovered an additional 1,000 allegedly falsified birth certificates from the same registry.

Rep. Adiong emphasized the need for decisive action to address the issue, prevent exploitation of the nation's systems, and maintain the integrity of identification systems and national security.
