Rep. Abante wants House Quad Committee to probe missing sabungeros

Manila Rep. Bienvenido M. Abante, Jr. filed House Resolution 53 to revive the House Quad Committee to investigate the disappearance of over 30 cockfighting enthusiasts between 2021 and 2023.

The resolution aims to aid authorities in investigating the alleged abduction, disappearance, and killing of sabungeros, and to craft laws to prevent similar incidents.

Abante stated that the disappearance of the 'missing sabungeros' is no different from extrajudicial killings and represents a violation of human rights.

The House Quad Committee is composed of the committees on human rights, dangerous drugs, public order and safety, and public accounts.

The missing victims were reportedly accused of cheating in cockfighting, and their remains were allegedly dumped in Taal Lake.

The case regained national attention after a witness emerged and alleged that a gambling tycoon orchestrated the killings.
