Local executives ordered to beef up inspection efforts vs. POGOs
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has ordered local government units (LGUs) to intensify inspections and completely eradicate remaining Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) or face sanctions.
He warned that local chief executives will be held accountable if buildings used by POGOs are discovered without prior inspection and reporting to the DILG.
This directive follows a recent raid on a POGO facility in Parañaque City, reportedly used for love and investment scams, which led to the apprehension of over 400 individuals.
The DILG will be requesting explanations from the involved LGU regarding the incident.
Remulla also ordered LGUs nationwide to coordinate with the Philippine National Police (PNP) for hidden POGO operations and submit a 'no POGO certificate' by the end of January 2025.
