PSC facilities to be used as quarantine sites for COVID-19 patients

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is offering the use of its major sports facilities, including the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) and Philsports Complex, to accommodate COVID-19 patients.

PSC Chairman William Ramirez stated that the combined facilities can house more than 200 patients with a 250-bed capacity.

These venues are being prepared as temporary quarantine areas for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms, to be used if hospitals become filled to capacity.

Specific sites within RMSC being prepared include the Rizal Coliseum, Ninoy Aquino Stadium, and Rizal Baseball Stadium, with Ninoy Aquino Stadium designated as the main site for mild cases.

The decision to use these venues as backup treatment sites was discussed in early March with the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), anticipating that existing hospitals might not be enough.

Military personnel were seen inspecting the RMSC on Tuesday, and the facilities will be managed by a joint team from the DOH, DPWH, police, and military.
